January 25, 2023: the desktop app ended
Snap made the standalone Snap Camera app unavailable to use or download. The old desktop app is no longer a supported foundation for a current webcam workflow.
Snap Camera is no longer available as a standalone desktop app. If you used it to send a filtered webcam feed into Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS, or Discord, CiCi Cam is a current PC and Mac alternative for natural beauty, makeup, lighting, and color correction. It uses a virtual camera, but it does not recreate Snap's AR Lens library.
For a reusable, natural-looking webcam feed on PC and Mac, CiCi Cam replaces Snap Camera's virtual-camera role with beauty, makeup, lighting, and color controls. It is not a replacement for Snapchat AR Lenses. Use Snapchat's Chrome or web camera options for Snap Lenses, OBS Studio for composed scenes, or built-in meeting effects for one app only.

Snap ended the desktop app on January 25, 2023. Its current support page says the standalone app is no longer available and points Lens users to browser-based Snapchat options instead.
Snap Camera combined AR Lenses with a desktop virtual camera. The right replacement now depends on whether you need Snapchat-style AR, natural appearance controls, or a full streaming scene compositor.
A system virtual camera lets one processed webcam feed appear in compatible meeting, streaming, and recording apps. Browser extensions and built-in meeting effects generally stay inside their own app or browser workflow.
Choose AR Lenses, natural beauty and lighting, or streaming scenes first. This prevents you from installing a complex broadcast tool when all you need is a consistent meeting-ready camera feed.
Follow Snap's Windows or Mac uninstall steps, then reboot. Removing the unsupported app also clears the old workflow before you select a new camera source.
Select your physical webcam in CiCi Cam, then start with light smoothing, facial soft light, subtle makeup, and neutral color correction. CiCi Cam exposes the finished feed as a virtual camera.
Choose CiCi Cam in Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS, Discord, or another compatible app. Check its final preview before a live call because camera permissions and device menus differ by app.

No. Snap Camera centered on Snapchat AR Lenses; CiCi Cam centers on natural beauty, makeup, lighting, and color controls. It replaces the cross-app virtual-camera workflow for those appearance tasks, but users who specifically want Snap's character effects should use Snap's current browser options instead.
The discontinued app covered two different jobs: applying Snap Lenses and sending a processed feed to other desktop apps. Compare replacements by the job you actually need.
| Option | Best for | Where it works | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| CiCi Cam | Natural beauty, makeup, lighting, and color correction | Compatible desktop camera apps on Windows and macOS through a virtual camera | Does not include Snapchat's AR Lens library |
| Snapchat Camera for Chrome / Snapchat for Web | Continuing to use Snap Lenses in supported browser video feeds | Snap's browser and web workflows | Not the discontinued standalone system-wide Snap Camera app |
| OBS Studio Virtual Camera | Scenes that combine a webcam, overlays, media, and other sources | Apps that accept OBS's virtual-camera output | Requires an OBS scene and more setup than a camera-effects app |
| Zoom or Teams built-in effects | A quick adjustment needed in one meeting app | Only inside the app where the effect is configured | The look and controls do not carry into other camera apps |
Availability can vary by operating system, browser, app version, account policy, and hardware. Test the final destination app before a live meeting or stream.
Snap's AR tools still exist, but the old consumer desktop app and its system-wide workflow should not be confused with today's browser and developer products.

Snap's support page now directs computer users to Snapchat Camera for Chrome or Snapchat for Web. Those options preserve access to Lenses in browser-based video feeds, not the old standalone app.
Lens Studio remains Snap's Lens-authoring tool, while Camera Kit is an SDK for adding Snap AR to a mobile or web product. They are active developer tools, not a drop-in desktop virtual-camera replacement.
Choose a tool for AR, natural enhancement, or scene composition; uninstall the unsupported app; then change the selected camera in every meeting, streaming, and recording application.
Most migration failures come from a stale device selection, the wrong camera being opened, or choosing a replacement for a different kind of effect.
Quit Snap Camera, use Snap's official uninstall steps, and reboot. Then open the destination app again so it refreshes the available camera devices.
Start CiCi Cam and confirm its preview first, then fully restart the destination app. Check operating-system camera permissions and any company policy that restricts virtual cameras.
Use the physical webcam as CiCi Cam's input and CiCi Cam as the destination app's camera. Selecting the physical camera in both places bypasses the processed feed.
CiCi Cam is not the right replacement for that task. Use Snap's current Chrome or web workflow and confirm that the specific Lens and target website are supported.
Connect CiCi Cam to OBS as a Video Capture Device without installing a beauty plugin in OBS.
Choose between appearance tools, scene compositors, capture utilities, and app-specific effects.
Check restart order, camera permissions, device selection, and application conflicts.
Snap Camera availability and uninstall guidance were checked against Snapchat Support; the current roles of Lens Studio and Camera Kit were checked against Snap for Developers. OBS and meeting-app alternatives were checked against their official documentation. CiCi Cam comparisons describe the current product scope and avoid claiming parity with Snap's AR Lens library.
Install on Windows or Mac, build your preset, and use it in every video app.
